How do you get them to stay in place and stop sliding?
I guess they need to slide in order to be mounted and dismounted.
A dab of caulck would be my guess.
Or just pinch the backside lightly so the friction is enough to just get them on?
If you pinch it too much, it will not slide anymore. Then install is only doable once and it needs to get installed together with trim in one go. And removal will be a pain for a future owner as it needs to come with the trim simultaneously, likely bending the trim.
Which makes it my worst suggestion...

Just squeeze them for a tight fit.
