After six months of fiddling, I finally have the my CSL back on the road. This was a "barn find" that I purchased back in June. The car had been sitting for 20 years. I couldn't have done it without the help of my "well established" coupe buddies and I wanted you all to know who they all are:

Mike Pelly-How does he explain to his wife every weekend that he is helping me with my car?

Phil Slate-Whom has spend countless hours wrenching on this thing and to whom I am heavily indebted to!

Mitch Brookhyser-Did an incredible job on the stripe kit and it looks better than it did from the factory!

Murray Fowler-Always a great source of knowlege and parts, and he is always willing to part with them for me. Thanks Murray!

Tom Rakestraw-Always a phone call away and will pick up or call back immediately to answer all of the technical questions.

Paul Cain-I should have listened to him in the first place! Also always willing to lend a hand for technical advice and still needs to "fix" my tool kit. :D

Ron Inchausti- (Coast Motor Werk) AKA: Deep pockets and Daddy War Bucks. Ron was there since day one and hung in there unitl 6:30 last night-robbing his 3.0S of parts so we could get the CSL on the road. They just don't make them like Ron any more.

I have to admit that on the way home last night, I was listening for every little sound or movement, but the old girl just sang all the way home. After 20 years in hibernation, she acted like she had never taken a break.

I couldn't have done it without this grouo of dedicated coupe guys. Thanks again!

Here are some photos of Mike, Phil, and of course "Sweetie", doing some last minute details:

Way cool Ron,
a never endiing quest. I love it that I myself , as you have now, the most unique car in the 'hood. And as a life long mechanic and fan of all things BMW, well...kudos to all involved. (well, one of my neighbors has two restored Isettas, and a parts car, a little too unique for me, but cool just the same)

Barn found CSL looking GOOD Ron--

Thanks for the kind words for so little input from this corner--wish my mobility were mo-better to have permitted me to have more actively been part of the "laying on of hands" in the beautiful resurrection of the "barn find" CSL.

Seeing it in the condition reflected in this one pic--I'll no doubt look it over soon in person--versus several months ago on Ron I's hoist at Coast Motor Werkes and somewhat fresh from its discovery--prompts a few comments I'll share for E-9 board skeptics--I have known Ron P. for years--judged some of his cars at BMW events against the best around here--and believe it appropriate to share some of my observations and a few accurate statements I'd like to make to the various members who have "thrown down the gauntlet" at some of your statements as to various BMW sales of cars you have personally prepared and then sold.

Ron's skill has brought more exceptional examples of early BMW's to concours condition throughout, in the shortest period of time I have been personally priviledged to witness in my years of involvement with BMW's. Each when offered for sale have brought record or near record prices.

The ones he has finished (with some help from others) always find willing buyers to provide good new homes, usually within brief periods of time as a direct result of the prior paragraph--and trust my next posting--there are few among us that approach bringing these cars to the relentless level of technical, cosmetic or whatever else one may seek in one of the cars he has completed. Each is near flawless. Ron--you do set the bar very high--especially for those of us who have less energy now or the patience to follow through on addressing the minutest of detail!!

BTW--I have known CoupeKing, Carl Nelson, Carey Iida, Paul Cain, Tom Rakestraw and many others for many years here on the West Coast who have fine reputations for their handiwork with Coupes--but not the breadth of BMW models to their credit that Ron has now personally prepared.

wow!

i don's know the others but I do know Carl Nelson and he's a damn prick!!! but that what makes him so GOOD!

Your opinion of Carl is not shared by me and--

For someone who has such a long term posting membership on the CS message board--now for 20 or 21 DAYS--I'm sure you must know Carl intimately. Although IMHO--your comment re Carl is way over the top, and without merit.

Seriously--you must have celebrated New Years Eve with too much vino and/or your favorite team lost their bowl game to be in so onery a mood as to make that slanderous post.

carl nelson?

Carl is the nicest man i ever meet. if BMW was a religion Carl would be the messiah.

Carl

Indeed, don't bite the hand that feeds you. Carl has always seemed to take the time to discuss project questions with me and it would have been tough to get as far as I have without him. Knowledge is Power. And an extensive parts inventory doesn't hurt either! Thanks Carl and please keep safe.
I am ignorant to the history of most CA players, this will be a "For Sale" car? Looks like a keeper to me, $185,000 be damned.

Yes, this car will be for sale, but not until I finish it. Look for it sometime in February. I have enjoyed driving it so much, it pains me to sell it. Oh well, time to move on.

CSL

Ron,

Can't wait to see it since it has left the lift at Coast! Another vote for you as well in bringing older BMWs back to life and for sharing your knowledge. As for Carl, he is truly one of the best. I am bringing a `69 2002 back to life and he graciously GAVE me an early half shaft after I damaged the pin that contains the needle bearings in the sliding joint (these are pre-CV joint).

Chris,

Hopefully you can see the car soon. I was pretty bummed that it was raining this morning and no Cars & Coffee. I didn't expect you there anyway as I thought you were still camping. See ya next Saturday, and thanks for the kind words!
