Hey there coupers,

Anyone know much about the 2.5L M30 motors?

Is it a good daily runner with better fuel economy?

well, I started my bmw big six experience with a '69 2500 sedan, auto trans. At least one of the carbs was not up to it and dripped fuel constantly into the venturi. As a partial result, you had to drive as if on eggshells - no immediate response from the motor. But that, of course was a car with carb trouble. Other than that, it ran well enough. The previous owner had dropped a lot of cash on it and I got a big stack of receipts. But he hadn't fixed the carbs.

As I recall, the engine was very similar to its larger brothers, even to the carbs, which had slightly different jet sizes.

I have owned one for 10 years in the form of a 1983 525i. Gray market car that was purchased new in France and imported in 1996. I bought it from the original owner and have put about 40k on it. Since I could not leave well enough alone, It has headers,a Supersprint exhaust, 391 LSD and a big bore throttle body. 9.6 to 1 pstons were standard with the first gen Motronic. As far as gas goes, it gets about 20 miles to the gallon, but I run Non-Oxy premium. Early on in my Coupe rebuild, I thought about using this motor/tranny combo, but choose a 3.5 instead.
