Last week I had the (joy) of changing the tie rod assembly on the wife's Benz C280. Dang it all, the MB engineers made the left tie rod, center link and right tie rod a single unit - not available separately. Only one joint was bad, but it had to be done...

The guys at the parts shop were kind enough to lend me a little Kukko 128-2 puller to pop the tapered bolts... it beats hell out of the pickle fork I'd been using, and then some.

However, a web search pulls up only Samstag Sales and ebay as sources, and the puller is about $86. That's too much for my very occasional use. Has anyone a source for these little gems at some more reasonable ticket?

At least I salvaged the tie rod ends, they were still good, but with 125k on the car it will be many years before I use them. Anyone have a need?

See the puller at http://www.samstagsales.com/kukko.htm

kukko -along with hazet, stahlwille, etc- are nice, but expensive and samstag sales is one of the few places that i've seen sell some of these brands. have you considered the cheap alternatives? i think that lisle, kd, an otc among others make a useable version (ie: good enough for the twice-a-decade jobs).

also, don't know if you already frequent the site, but the garagejournal is a good place to ask about tools - lots of pros there but don't be surprised if the first reply is "buy american/snap-on".
