Hi

Is this this the one that will let you fit side draft intakes on the car?

Thanks, Rick

It is very close depending on the carb and the manifold. I can snap a pic of the one on my bench if desired.

I have a set of 45 Webers and the ind intake manifolds ( I think that I got them from you, Markos ) Markos, can you take a picture of yours

Alan, not sure if a 74 will work

Thanks, Rick

Ahh yes Rick that is correct. I don’t think that I had the new coolant flange at the time. I’ll measure the length of my Korman manifold and snap a pic of the DCOE next to the coolant flange. Let’s just say it is “darn close”. I have 152’s, which have an air bypass screw that comes very close to the hose clamp area. If you have older carbs it would be easier to work around.

As mentioned, the bypass screws came on 152’s. If you don’t have these you will likely clear @bavman’s coolant flange. If you want to understand what this needle valve does and if you need/want it without then read the last post here. The butterflies on a given DCOE are connected to the same shaft, but can still better synced with these bypass screws. They really aren’t intended to sync the idle across the three carbs. In theory, you could cap the first one and sync the second needle on carb #1 according to where you land. Since they are a late addition you could also just cap all of them and sync using the standard approach for “legacy” dcoe’s. I have no experience working on any carb, so take my high-level observations with a grain of salt. Folks like @Stevehose and @Ohmess actually have real experience with this stuff, and I’m guessing that neither of them have these bypass valves.

Ohmess and I have DCOM which are the last style Italian Webers made before production was moved to Spain, they are not unlike 152's except the accel pump mechanism is updated and adjustable and the air bypass screws are more inboard (see pic - the screwdriver is pointing to it below the capped vacuum port). The purpose of the bypass screw is to balance the barrels of each carburetor, correcting the slight tolerance difference between the butterflies. The butterfly screw that is passing more air is always bottomed out, the other is opened to match it, so only one is actually opened. Done for each carb, then the carbs are synched via the linkage. Perhaps they moved the screws inboard later so as to avoid possible clearance issues - who knows.
