I am planning to attend Legends East and the Hilton Head Concourse this year, and am hoping that this years' event does not include the Monsoon.

Anybody else plan to be there?

I have registered for the judged class since it was the same price as the Display class. I would appreciate any info on where to stay beside the resort.

Not going this year. Just a repeat of the same show. Without rain I hope for all of you. I try to go to different events instead of the same year after year.

Last year was my first time attending this event, and with the weather and our event taking place the same day at the main event, I don't really feel like I attended the Hilton Head Concourse. So, I'm giving it another chance.

I'm attending in the coupe. Exhibiting Saturday and showing Sunday. I have a pair of weekend tickets for sale for $100, since I wound up with 2 pair. Staying at the Hampton Inn.

Looks like the weather cooperated this year. Well done Drew.
Thanks!! We had rain driving to the golf course so the cars needed to be dried off before the cleaning started. Then we were told it was a full judging of the trunk, engine bay and under carriage. Thank goodness I had recently done the wet ice treatment under the car, AKA the water hose to wash off some dirt and grease.

Good Legends this year. I was in the 2002 class & the competition was extremely close the cars were all within a pint of each other. The coupes were just as close yet took a bit less time to judge from my perspective.

Drew Gregg won Coupe Class & People’s Choice.

Thanks to some helpful tips from Andrew and Doug Dolan, my car has never looked better.

And as you can see, they displayed our cars in a great spot. Looking at the formidable competition, I knew I was a longshot. But there was a moment:

Whist evaluating our engine bays, the judge asked me “what venturis are you running.” I replied “34s.” “Which emulsion tubes do you have?” An obscure question to be sure, since these are not often changed unless you do a dyno day. Luckily, Stevehose and I had been chatting about emulsion tubes last week. “F47s” I said.

He then asked: “Mains?” I responded: “135s.” At this point he hesitated, and I became concerned. Was I going to get dinged because my mains are too large?? I know smaller ones would provide better fuel economy, but my AFR is right at 12.5 at full throttle. And I was running at 13.7 at 70 mph on the way down. Fortunately, he moved on. “How about air correctors?” I responded “180s.”

The judge went to his clipboard, made some notes, and moved on to Doug’s car. Drew came over, and put on a brave face: “I had to tell him I have someone else tune my carbs.” While he appeared to be calm, I could see the hint of terror in his eyes. “I didn’t know any of that stuff.” My heart leapt. There was hope!!

Alas, it was not meant to be. I got trounced by “The Turk.”

I hope they can grow the turnout for next year and beyond.
Chris - I really like the idea of having a higher end car show to attend after participating in Legends because it makes the entire trip more of an event. And BMW owners who enter the HH Concourse then participate in Legends, extending the appeal of Legends, and potentially drawing in to Legends cars that we might not otherwise see. By way of example, I got a kick out of taking picture of my car with that stunning red 507 parked behind me. I also like the fact that it is late in the year which minimizes conflict with other BMW events.

I agree that it needs to grow, but also think it need to be given some time to mature. Word of mouth is a key element of organic growth, and because of last years' monsoon I don't think there was as much "buzz" around the event this year. If we want the event to succeed at Hilton Head, I think we need to keep at it and allow the memory of the really unusual bad weather to fade into the background, hopefully to be supplanted by positive chatter from more recent events. As you know, we had twelve coupes last year in the rain and cold, along with a good showing of other BMWs. This makes me think that there is potential for the event.

A turkis coupe will always have the unfair advantage...
Bo, I could have had a hampster in a cage running on a wheel in the engine compartment and people still only want to know the color of the Coupe. The titanium color of the BBS wheels, saddle tan leather, and Hawaiian Koa wood trim probably also helped with the People's Choice award.
