I have this written down somewhere but cannot find it.
How long is it for cars with manual steering box (mainly CLS cars) and how long for cars with PAS?
I seem to recall a difference of 90 mm or thereabouts.

pmansson,

I converted to manual this winter so the measurement is in situ but pretty close. Stock PS shaft is 430mm and the manual shaft ended up 575 - 580mm. I thought I had this solved by using the manual shaft from the e3 donor of the steering box but it was short by 25 - 30mm.

I did keep the PS shaft untouched in case I want/need to re-install.

Thanks

Very helpful, as I have a few sitting around.
How do you like the change to manual?
What wheels/tyres does the car have?
I did this last year on a car with stock wheels and Michelin XWX 205/70 and might go back to PS, now that the pump and box are overhauled. The stock equipment is very good, and I felt no benefits of the heavier working manual box. OK, I save weight on the front axle which is always good, and better access to the oil filter etc.
Bit of work to go back, so haven´t decided yet.

Peder,

I haven't had the car out yet as the b35 head is not back from the machine shop. Tires are 225/45/17 so I'm sure it will be no fun parking but 90% of my driving is highway or secondary and I live in a small town so traffic is limited.

There are other options or just back to the OEM PS.

I will keep it manual

Drove 900 miles from Switzerland to the S of Sweden wed and thursday. This car is rock solid with all its new parts and some improvements, 250 HP Engine and 2.4 kg/28 psi in the Michelin XWX. I had long stretches of low traffic on a new section of the Autobahn where I was doing 100-120 MPH for about 45 mins. On 5th gear and OD box with 3.25 it works really well from an acceleration and low rev perspective.
I have decided to keep the car on manual steering box.
