Just had these two restored, they were in fairly decent shape but looked pretty rough. The Schneider frame is Murray's, I have only seen one other, he was the earliest OC BMW dealer. The Oceanview frame is Mark's, his `73 was bought new there and he has the window sticker to prove it. The Vasek Polak frames are getting pretty pricey, the Porsche influence is spreading to his BMW items I guess.

Chris

(The Schneider frame will be going on Blumax this Saturday, we will post some photos with Murray)

Cool, I never thought of getting a frame with a dealer logo on it, but now that I see these, I'd like to get one from a long since gone BMW dealership in Toronto that was famous for introducing the BMW brand to Canadians, was a family owned business that supported all kinds of motorsports, then BMW yanked the franchise when they decided to go to big fancy corporate stores. It was called Beach Auto. Pretty well all the top BMW tuners in Ontario came out of this place.
Anyone have a frame, please PM me.

Those are sweet, I've been looking for an OE Haring BMW frame from new Orleans for 2 years no dice.

How rare are the CS Registry frames I have one on my coupe, perfect condition. Although I have to go look and see whether it says Registry or Register. Something else to hold that beloved old curmudgeon(sp) Art Wegweiser responsible for.

My unrestored Vasek Polak frame complete with the correct vintage California plate. Took me forever to find.

Other license plate frames

I have the CS Registry license plate frame on the GR8 WHITE.

I wonder who the Boston BMW dealer was "back in the day?"
I bought my 77 E21 from Herb Chambers but there was a small dealer in Lexington, Automotive Engineering, I think who also was forced to relinquish the dealership when BMW went "upscale"

I think my car started out in Beaverton OR. My Golde Sunroof booklet names a Cadillac Dealer!

Oregon

My coupe was originally purchased in Oregon, and immediately driven to New Mexico. Anyone have an Oregon lead on a frame?
thanks

Unlike California, those Massachusetts license plate frames have likely returned tomthe earth, decomposed by the salt spray from winter road salt!

I think I am staying with my old CS Register... but I do have a vintage Coupe King frame that makes it way on from time to time!

My car was originally sold by the former Swiss importer MOTAG. It has a decal on the rear window: “BMW Coupe Club Nederland”. Fat chance of finding a license plate for that! {:>). Then if I did find one, it would be of a different configuration than US plates.

Here is the original frame that came on my car. The maintenance record stamps from 1973 show this dealership. People always give me grief as to why a Washington car is sporting a Kansas City plate. It works for me. Someday I may even get around to touching up the paint on it...

Two more photos shot by our own Fred Larimer for an upcoming article in Roundel on Murray. Second photo includes John LaPorta, Mark Judy and myself, three `73 coupe owners.

Chris: I've been looking for someone trustworthy to restore a tag frame for a couple of years. Sounds like you were pleased. Can you recommend someone?

Related: I have a Vasek Polak frame on my 72 (not the frame I need to restore). About 15 years ago, I was buying some parts from VP and asked offhandedly if they had any old tag frames lying around -- and he just gave me one. Good ol' days.

Don

VP died in 97. If your frame needs to be chromed it's $75, more if it breaks and needs to be welded. Painting is $40. I would be glad to help if needed. Send me a PM.

My Vintage Plate Frame Bling

Was reading this thread and realized this was the way to acknowledge my car's SoCal origins, although I can't be sure of the original selling dealer. Found this one on ebay and couldn't resist. This dealer opened around 1973. It is now a Mini franchise.
Thanks for the inspiration.

dealership in santa clara, CA

Anyone know the name of the early BMW dealer in that area?
Original owner told me he bought it in Santa Clara, CA right off the showroom floor.
"there was a blue one, which i liked, but it was an automatic, so tan it was"
my car was imported to Max, as usual, but don't have the name of the dealer.
any leads would be appreciated.... even though I put on a modern Internatonal Autos BMW plate frame, where I work :)

I am having two VP plate frames restored now. Due back next week - both rechromed and new paint. They were a mess. Looking forward to seeing and posting them.

Mario,

From 11/70, 1/73, 5/74 and 3/75 Dealer Directory:

B & B Foreign Car Center, 2963 El Camino Real

Must have been a very small dealer, gone in 1976. That frame would be next to impossible to find.
