My electrical shop tells me that I need a new light switch. I can harvest one off an old E9 but there the trim ring (61311351051) on the outside of the dash doesn't want to come out.
I use the little tool used to repair divots in a golf green - the points go into the pair of holes on on either side of the shaft. Unscrew the flat trim collar and push the switch assembly back in to dash. Disconnect the battery first.
Exactly. The trim ring screws on, it isn't a friction joint. Realistically, there are very few trim parts that are just "pushed in", most of them are screwed into their respective spot. Perhaps that's why the interior doesn't squeak.
