I may just have exceeded my level of compentence in opening the door lock cylinders...!?!?
I now have lots of small parts, nicely cleaned and ready for assembly.
What worries me is that while I have 6 springs and 6 spring bases? I only have 5 studs (3 long and 2 short or vice versa). Have I lost the 6th one?

Not to worry, as I have a spare set of old cylinders which presumably have 3 short and 3 long studs. Or does this depend on the lock in question???

Before visiting a local locksmith, I thought I would pose the problem in front of this board with its many knowledgeable people.

How to assemble and should there be 5 studs or 6 ?

After a closer check I have:

5 spring holders/bases in 2-3 lenghts
4 thin springs
1 slightly thicker spring
5 studs (1 longer, 2 medium and 2 shorter)

It thus appears that I didn´t lose any parts (in my stupid attempt to open, clean and oil the cylinder).

I think that I will bring the parts to a locksmith or watch repair shop (after all; I live in Switzerland.....)

You might try the Patent office if all else fails, as I hear the ghost of Einstein is said to walk the halls to this day...anxiously waiting to hear from Max Plank about the publication of his 1905 Physics paper....or in lieu of that humbly realize that your skills above are surely appreciated and the equal of the best of us?

Glad you got the count right!
So much for humility?

lol!

Stefan, my ex-wife is from Malmo, Sweden and I often had to explain my sense of humor to her as well...so no worries@!

Since Pmansson referred to his Swiss heritage in his posting, that county is also very famous for employing the scientist Albert Einstein at it's main patent office as a clerk when no one would give him a University job...(little did they know a year later he would unravel the key to the universe, among other acheivements) So if anyone could help figure out the e9 key cylinder pin configuration problem, I thought perhaps his 'effigy' or Ghost might be the one to call?

Also, because it's the weekend, the jewlers are not open?

Something like like that Stefan...aside from the fact that IMHO the original poster here figured it our for himself and my posting was supportive not meant to be obscure...apologies if it was for you...
