I am in the process of having my coupe repainted and need to figure out where to send the bumpers and other chrome for replating. Any suggestions?

Also for the anodized aluminum beltline trim - is there any consensus on how to restore - can the parts be polished and reanodized?

Thanks,

Yes the belt line trim can be polished and re-anodized but be careful about the place you take it to be anodized. I had mine polished and it look real nice but the anodizing process caused it to dull a bit; I don't think their tank was clean. Another option is to have it polished and clear coated; I'm in the process of doing this with my nose grill and I'm going to use a two part polyurethane for the clear coat.

I use Sherm's Custom Plating in Sacramento for smaller parts. Just mail the parts to them, and get them back via mail. You can find them pretty easily on the web. Even if you don't use Sherm's, their website has a lot of good information.

One thing I like about Sherm's is that they do a variety of quality levels - their "street" level is the least expensive, and is fine for anything short of Pebble Beach aspirants.

For bumpers, I used someone local (Bumper Choice Plating in SanteFe Springs), just because I didn't want to ship something that large/fragile. The cost? Let's just say it was breathtaking - chrome plating is not for pikers.

I used Sherm's in Sacramento also. I was very happy with their Quality, you may have to wait a bit, but it was worth it. Take care, Dean

belt line trim

Option three on the beltline trim: De-anodize, polish, carnuba wax. Yes, it has to be maintained (part of the fun..), but the idea of all that work to end up with milky re-anodize, or poly something that can yellow, get chipped and hold dirt, or just be poorly executed, made my decision to go to wax. Its easy to redo, or polish out (mother's alum polish), which can't be said for the other options. For a car that will see alot of weather, maybe the others are better. If I had to do it over again, I probably would poly the inside surfaces, however.

Re anodized trim--special way

Speedway Metal Polishing in Santa Ana on Pomona Street 714-542-7778--do great metal polishing, wheel re-finishing and aluminum parts renewal--no in house re-chroming--but may have a quality source--good chrome work here in Cal--o--fornia is becoming an endangered species with such heavy handed enviro wackos afoot with bureaucratic powers to kill business--there are however some few hardy souls persisting in the face of their drive to rid us of any such nasty business undertaking.

Speedways treatment for the side molding--they strip the aluminum of anodizing, polish to high lustre and apply a ceramic type coating that appears brighter than original and is reputed to be very durable.

In a recent post from Chris in Huntington about completing restoration of a lovely Malaga 3.0CS--had this process done and is very pleased--I have seen same and if I were to have mine done would go the same route. I have referred many to Speedway after using their services for metal polishing and wheel re-finishing for several years--always quality work at reasonable cost.
