Hi, does anybody have a spare rear silencer (rear muffler) for sale? I know Bosal makes a replacement that reasonably priced but they're nowhere to be found these days, so I thought I'd reach out before I spend $400 on a new OEM.

Hmmm.... I just bought one from the BMW dealer two weeks ago and it was about $240-$250 IIRC. $100 for installation adn new tail pipe at the local muffler shop

The Belgian Bosal will never last as long as the original ones made by Eberspächer of Germany. Don´t forget the end piece in chrome, 60mm for the original, curved end pipe.
Beware of the 2800 55 mm endpipes. 3.0L engines had the 60mm.

Well, let's see... Maximillian Importing / Mobile Tradition lists the #18121107892 rear muffler at $327. That's 2.9X the price of the Bosal (ignoring sales tax & shipping). So, is the Eberspächer really going to last almost three times longer than the Bosal?

On my rarely-driven, never sees rain collector cars, even the el-cheapo mufflers last quite a while. 3 X quite a while = more than my remaining lifespan. So for myself, I'm willing to stoop to putting a Belgian muffler on my German car.

I agree, but finding one has been challenging, I combed the internet and everyone is out of stock on the Bosal BO247809.

Tom ,
There is a magnaflow box that is the exact size as the oem, do a search here and you should see it, I had one on my coupe and it sounded sweet.IIRC cost about $150

autopartswarehouse doesnt have any. they show it as in stock but they are nla. I know this for certain because i tried to order one past week. They said they checked with all of their distributors and none of them had any left. I ended up buying the oem piece.

pj, I did a little research on this, how difficult was it to create the adaptors on either end (I beleive the Magnaflow has a 4" inflow/out flow) to match up with the rest of the exhaust system?

which magnaflow unit are you using? my rear silencer is hosed and i couldn't find any part #'s in previous posts for the magnaflow replacement

Magnaflow

PJ, Do you use the 31" length version with 2.5" in/outlet? I believe the inflow to the megnaflow runs perpendicular to the rest of the exhaust (unlike the OEM which has the 90 degree take off for the inflow) did you have to compensate for the 90 degree bend in the attachment tube? It's probably been a while, but any additional info you could provide would greatly appreciated.
Thanks, Tom

which magnaflow?

The magnaflow rear can on the coupeking system looks like a 6" round can with 2.5" in/out. I think coupeking said this in a post once, but am not certain. The length of the can looks like either 14" or 18" to me, but I couldn't be sure.

I'm curious to know what size(s) rear can others are using and what effect size has on sound.
