I don't really know that it is called. so i call it the lower front lip. its # 2 in the
illustration.
anyway. mine looks a bit molested. and i drilled out the spot welds on the lower edge in order to take the thing off and bang it back into shape.
now the upper edge how do i take it off without any collateral damage?

i could use the angle grinder and cut between #2 and part #1...
trying to stay in the middle of the fold.
any better idea? thank you all in advance, as always

More stinking spot welds

The apron.... is attached with more spot welds. Locate them, drill the ones accessible, and use a panel cutter where not. A cutoff wheel would cause too much distortion IMHO.

It would be a place to use panel adhesive when reinstalling.

Pay particular attention to the small drain channels that are formed in the piece at the junction. Or seal both sides.:)

i can barely see any spot welds under there

porsche you're the best :)

the lower spot welds were ok ...even though it was pita to dill upside down.
i'll try to drill first and see how far i get.

the apron... why do they have to spot weld that thing in the first place ? :(

oh BTW... don't have a panel cutter , sigh

I would not hesitate to use a cut-off disk. I use 1/32' thick disks and they heat up only a very small area at most.

I would definitely try to keep the drain holes open. Otherwise, if the car ever gets wet you'll collect quite a pool there.

I used a stud welder on mine, but I already had the tool. I'm not sure that was any less work than removing the panel would have been.

bill thanks for the encouragement

the piece is off and i'll see to get it to the 'old car guy' to have him get the dings out.
