Terry Tinney has begun disassembling the engine in my Luigi CSL following its implosion at Monterey. It seems the head suffered damage as well as the block when the motor blew:

So we will need to find a new head along with the new block.

So it goes with racing . . . even vintage racing. You go out to the grid thinking, "it's all about the cars, it's not a race," ... but when the green flag flies the urge to win is mighty powerful. This year there were a whole mess of Lotus/Alfa and Abarth twin cams blow-ups among my racing buddies. These are $15k motors all day long. My Alfa twin cam is safe up to around 9000rpm, which I accidentally saw twice this season when I mis-shifted into 3rd rather than 5th. It was only a super CR gearbox that saved the motor from catastrophe.

Sorry to hear of your bad luck with the BMW motor. That's a pretty substantial crack, and yet the combustion chamber (what is visible) looks ok. Well, if nothing else it's an excuse to build a more powerful motor, right?

Duane, is your tii race car ready?

I think Terry and many others dream of a stack of 73-75 csi heads hidden somewhere in Kansas or Oklahoma

Yes, that would be wonderful, especially if they haven't stress hardened, or been cut up.

We are beginning with an M90 block and building from there. Hopefully we can find a good head.

Terry Tinney stopped by Thunderhill this weekend to exchange some parts and motors with the guys from Racecraft. We were racing the CSRG Season Finale.

He brought me up to date on where we are with Luigi's engine re-build.

He has found a straight, well seasoned M90 block and a NOS head to fit!!

So we are on our way. I'll keep the forum updated on progress.
