I qualified Luigi mid pack- 18th out of 44 cars. Terry had my best lap at a 1:44 and change.
We did have an issue on Thursday. I came into turn 5 and the brake pedal went to the floor. I was able to pump it furiously and get the car slowed enough to make the turn and stay on the asphalt.
I thought we had cured the brake issues, so I was pretty bummed when I pulled off the track.
Once things cooled down Terry got to work. What he found was pretty unusual. One of the rear wheel weights came off and hit the retaining clip that holds the rear pads in place which allowed them to back out of position.
We have moved the weights to the outside rims, taped them in place, and safety wired the retaining clips.
Friday's session went much better. The brakes held up for the entire session. The pedal never got soft. I worked up to using the brakes pretty hard; waiting for the car to settle after the hill, which was just shy of the 300 ft. marker going into the Andretti hair-pin.
Unfortunately our session was cut short when an air cooled track oiler and a GTO Mustang tangled in turn 4 and ended up in the tires at the exit of the turn on driver's right. Nobody was hurt, except some egos and a few old tires.
Still, I felt like I am finally getting a better feel for the car, and I am gaining confidence in the brakes.
Tomorrow is the big day, so stay tuned.
