I finally fired up the coupe for the first time in ~1.5 years last week. Aside from a dead battery and having an extremely erratic idle (which smoothed out, so probably bad gas + cranky) it ran fine. Oddly enough, though, the idle stabilized at ~1100 RPM. Based on the Bently and BMW blue books for the E32, the idle should be ~800. I haven't done much digging with it yet, as it is ~130 miles away from me on a regular basis.

Thoughts?

vacuum leak from a dry, cracked hose or gasket? Faulty cold start/choke system?

Possible, but thankfully the M1.3 system does not use any cold start valves. I could probably stand to clean the idle control valve, though.

Just curious on why it sat so long?

Not a lot has happened with it for the last 6 or so years because:
3 years of grad school in Texas
3 years (so far) of living ~130 miles away from it
Got married ~1.5 year ago
1st kid back in November

...so the coupe has been on the back burner for quite some time.

Vacuum leak....
I got a $1.00 ebuck on it!

I am afraid I have been neck-deep in excessively modern EFI (GDI) systems; which vac lines are present in the M1.3 system? I am running the full thing, so I don't have the usual mish-mash of vac lines going to a distributor or a throttle body. The only line that comes to mind is the one going to the brake booster.
