About three weeks ago I was lying in bed, trying to figure my to do list for the day. The main task on the list was that it was time to start the selling process for my 1998 M3 Sedan. I have owned it since 2004, but I store it every winter to keep it in as good condition as possible. The E36 M3 sedan was by far my favourite car when it came out. In Canada it was about $65,000 unfortunately, which was way beyond my budget. When I finally decided it was time to buy one, I looked Continent wide for the lowest mileage one I could find. It had to be a Sedan, and it had to be a manual.
I considered one on Ebay at the time that was owned by Mel Blanc. (the voice of Bugs Bunny)
It was a nice Silver one, but was an Automatic.
After a three month search , I found a Cosmos Black on Black 1998 with 22,000 miles in Wisconsin. It had the optional Forged Lightweight wheels (Which I love) and sealed the deal.
Over the years it was always a pampered car. It has had 4 manual gearbox flushes in 73,000 miles. Had bushings replaced at 30K. It is nicely setup with Koni adjustables all around, Euro Bosch lights, minor bushing upgrades, BMW Business CD-43 stereo and fresh Michelin PS2.
Fast forward to the day thinking in bed it was time to sell. I was working in the basement in the late afternoon when I had a knock at the door. I thought it was a salesman at the door when I answered and was about to go into get off my porch mode.
The guy said "This is a long shot, but are you the guy with the Black m3 Sedan? " He had one as well, that was high mileage and had been in an accident. He was wondering if I might be interested in selling mine. We talked about my car, his car and what I was thinking would be my price. He agreed to it, drove it a couple of weeks ago before my vacation, had it inspected this morning and bought it . I am very pleased I never had to take all the photos and deal with the type of local M3 buyer that wastes your time , wants a test drive and haggles rudely. These m3's are usually beat up around here and attract the backwards baseball hat drivers. . I think we both got what we were looking for. To Prep the car, I Installed the first set of brakes this car has needed yesterday afternoon. Put in all BMW pads, rotors, sensors and flushed the fluid . I had the parts in inventory for the last two years and it was on my list of things to do next time I drove it. Quite impressive that BMW brakes last 73,000 miles on a city driven car.
Anyway, the new owner was a great guy, loves M3's and will take very good care of it despite it's new role as an all season sports car. I will see it from time to time as we live about a half mile away.
This was the best way ever to sell a car.
Here he is with his two M3 Sedans. I will miss this car and keeping it in good shape.
