How many members have had their motor dynoed? Actual numbers only please, chart if you have it. Curious as to the HP and RPM limits from across the spectrum, 2.8, 3.0, 3.3, 3.5, 3.8 and what type of injection whether carbureted (side or downdraft, what size jets etc.), Motronic, L-jet, K-jet, etc.

Anyone run a lower compression w/ turbo? When is too much, too much, how long did motor last at higher limits? Any and all feedback welcome. Happy 4th and thanks for participating!

2 engines in this chart- factory USA 3.0 engine vs a euro spec m90 with Schrick cam and Megasquirt.
The choice is yours...

Here's my M30B35 with 32/36 DGEVs. About 165hp at 5150rpm and 185lbft at 3400rpm. Torque looks great, and I'm guessing the HP peak might be about 175 at a higher rpm if Weber 38s were installed.

Old thread, but do you happen to have any dyno charts from a cammed + megasquirt M30B35, to compare with the M90 in the chart you posted above.
Trying to get a sense of the difference in power/torque delivery between a mildly tuned B35 and M90, I've read lots but dyno charts speaks for themselves.

Robert , i have it from the rally car ( M30B35) , sorry ,with Webers & Schrick cam but i can't find it... must ask dyno shop....

I will look at my pics but most of my records are in office at CK where we dyno.

yeah Don ... not much of a choice ... close to 200 hp at the rear wheels ... gotta love that

amazing results BMWQP.... we have with a new M30B35 , Schrick cam and 45 Webers 210 HP and 300 NM... i had to make the intake runners longer as we only had 240 NM with trumpets direct on Webers.
Nice airbox , first time i see that piece between the thermostat housing to clear the Weber …. instead of rewelding the water pipe...
Strange you have the "old" type front cover , ever run with old style distributor ? Or older type head , as your cam cover isn't a "B35" ?
Compression ratio ? ( mine is OEM ) Head work ?

Hi Belgiumbarry,
basis is a M30 B35 engine without Kat from 1981 (218 HP), with H-shaft connecting rods, forged pistons (compression 10,5: 1), hemispherical cylinder head and 316-degree camshaft. The valve cover is the original 3.0 CS which fits on the early 3.5 m30 (no motronic).

I made 275rwhp with my triple 45 weber set up. This is a full race motor (JE high comp pistons, rods, crank, head work, etc). Terry Tinney (Livermore, CA) built my M30 race motor from an 88 US 735 core. Cam is an Elgin grind of a Shrick (334 I believe). Great motor, fires right up, drive it on the street some time, actually not that bad. Power doesn't really come on till around 4500rpm...then just soars to 7k (probably could go a little higher but have rev limiter chipped at 7K for longevity)....Race the car (E9 coupe) with VARA, HSRW and HMSA.....

Wrote that back in 2005 on mye28.com board. Motor has gone from my 1973 3.0CS painted Grey (2004 season), then repainted red/silver (2006-2007 season). Changed over to Aluminum Rockers sometime in 2006 (stock rocker arms started breaking near 7K rpm) and dyno numbers came down to 269 rwhp due to regrind of aluminum rocker arms. Motor and drivetrain have been offline for much delayed new e9 body/chassis, 1970 2800cs Green/Yellow car. Have done 1 test session at Cal Speedway this past December and have passed tech with VARA and new log book in January. Motor running great, ready for racing.....Love my M30 motor!! - Shawn

me like of course those race engines with extreme cam….. but in rally we need torque down low in rev's. We don't know corners, always a surprize :)
i wonder at what those engines idle ? 2000 rpm ?

Here is my B35 that is currently in an 89 vert. It has 10.5 to 1 compression pistons, Paul Burke N21 cam, long tube (I.E.) headers, and Megasquirt 3X. These numbers are actually lower than when I had it on another Dyno with home ported B35 manifolds and a Miller MAF War chip. I attribute the lower numbers to probably a more accurate Dyno and operator. But who knows? It runs pretty good and may end up in my Bav.
