Hi,
Is it a good choice to buy 80's M6 with s38 and swap all power train to E9 including trans, a/c, brakes, radiator, etc.? is it an easy fit? can any mechanic do it? I would appreciate your input.
Thanks

It is not a direct, bolt-in procedure. There are some slight modifications to the firewall and there are brake system / intake manifold interference issues. Nothing insurmountable, but paying someone else to work through it, especially if they haven't done it before, will be an expensive proposition.

Integrating the other systems will prove more complex, as they are used less frequently. Also, the Getrag 280 isn't known as a terribly robust trans.

Noted, thanks a lot, so do you think an 86 or 87 M6 is a good choice for a swap or 88 or 89 M5?
regards

You can ask Coupeking to look at the one I worked on- its nearby to you.

I was just down in L.A. last week at Coupeking's shop and I saw the M6 swap Don is talking about. It is bad A$$! Looks like that engine came off the assembly line with the coupe. Super clean install; definitely worth a look if you are in the area.

I didn't have any firewall issue but I know other people did. The swap is not completely plug-and-play. There are a number of threads that talk about issues for this swap (mine among them).

Always happy to help out with specific questions.
