So how do can I tell what a m 90 looks like from the outside?
Is there any markings, numbers etc to look out for?

I am sure other have a more complete answer and probably can post pics.
The m90 3.5 has 3.5 cast into the left side of the block and the left side also has a white painted "L" about 2" high on the left side about middle of block. The unique M90 also has a water passage on the left side protruding(about 1/2" out by 2 1/2" high and 12"' long) running from the front of the block back to the 2nd freeze plug location.
