Malaga 74 on Hemmings

Looks like a decent project. I suspect it’s overpriced.
seller can’t even get the VIN straight. It’s listEd as “4665433” acording to VIN plate it’s 4335433

After some time of advert reserach I see a tendency to divide old classic cars in two groups
1. Show cars - excellent or condition over the level of the BMW/Karmann factory
2. "Barn Find" cars

As #1 is quite obvious the second group is huge.
For many cars (including the one from the advert) they don't look like barn find (but of course it still can be in fact).

I'm wondering if "barn find" is a magic word to make the car being sold for higher price than it tell by it's condition? o_O

I like German Autodata, 5-level car condition

Google Translation from classic-data.de website:
----------------------------------------
CONDITION 1
Pristine condition. No defects, damage or signs of use in the technology and optics. Completely and perfectly restored top vehicle. Like new (or better *). Very rare.

A vehicle that you approach enthusiastically and that does not reveal any defects even on closer inspection. The basis for the assessment in the condition grade 1 is the assumed condition at the time of first delivery, i.e. the former new car condition of the corresponding manufacturer.
----------------------------------------
CONDITION 2
Good condition. Free of defects, but with slight (!) Signs of wear. Either rare, good unrestored original condition or professionally restored. Technically and optically perfect with slight signs of wear.

A vehicle that you approach enthusiastically, but on which you can find slight signs of wear on closer inspection. These slight signs of use should be reflected in the understandable, low total mileage or mileage after the restoration. The degree of wear of the technology is correspondingly low.
----------------------------------------
CONDITION 3
Used. Vehicles without major technical and visual defects, fully operational and roadworthy. No rust perforations. No immediate work necessary.

A vehicle that you approach and, on closer inspection, easily recognizes signs of use and various minor defects. The signs of use and defects should be reflected in the comprehensible total mileage or mileage after a restoration. The degree of wear of the technology corresponds to this.
----------------------------------------
CONDITION 4
Used condition. Only partially roadworthy. Immediate work for successful acceptance according to § 29 StVZO is necessary. Lighter to medium rust perforations. Vehicle completely in the individual assemblies but not necessarily undamaged.

A vehicle that you approach and in which various defects can be seen from a distance. A closer inspection shows clear signs of wear
----------------------------------------
CONDITION 5
Condition in need of restoration. Vehicles in poor overall condition, not ready to drive. Extensive work required in all assemblies. Vehicle not necessarily complete.

A vehicle in which even the layman immediately recognizes clear defects and / or missing parts. Could also be used as a parts carrier.
----------------------------------------
* Due to today's technical possibilities (e.g. welding work, computer-aided measuring techniques) as well as the changed materials (e.g. paint, surface finishing) and extensive corrosion protection, a completely restored vehicle can exceed the condition of the first delivery.

Condition, originality and history are assessed independently by the inspecting vehicle expert and are included in the valuation.

As you can see it is quite tidy and it allows for good value identification but sadly so rarely used

Looks great! NY area not the best location for an e9, so PPI is a must.

Think it's worth a bout $30k given the big bumpers and automatic.
