As a gratifying follow up to the 2004 (?) Automobile magazine ranking of E9s as the 14th coolest car of all time (they ranked the top 100), the September 2006 edition of Men's Journal included E9s as one of their 15 'perfect' sports cars.

Alas, they ranked by the buyer's budget and placed coupes in the 'alternative' category, where they were third from the last, just above Alpha Romeo Duettos and Saab Sonnets (hhmmm).

Others in the list:

53-62 Corvettes
53-56 Porsche Spyder
65-68 Shelby Cobra
62-64 Ferrari GT 250 Lusso
61-74 Jag E Type (why they didn't take the series 3 off the list, I can't imagine)
59-61 Austin Healey 3000
68-71 MB 280 SL
62-73 Lotus Elan
55-62 MGA
66-72 Lambroghini Miura
56-58 Porsche Speedster
51-present Morgan Plus 4

Don't get me wrong...................it's cool our cars have been identified as "cool", but the fact that they're called "sports cars" does little more than expose the ignorance of Men's Journals.

E9s are not now, nor have they ever been, sports cars.

Men's Journal

eh.... it's not an automotive magazine, so I don't expect much on that front.

Frankly, I would have expected them to be much less nuanced than they were.

507 #15???

I think it's funny that the CSL came in #14 and the BMW 507 #15.

Don’t get me wrong I love both cars.
I just think the 507 to be way cooler than the CSL.

I was surfing down by Big Sur this past weekend and saw a beautiful 507 parked by the side of the road in the middle of nowhere. I pulled over just to take a good look at it. It was an awesome specimen; wish I had a camera with me.
