Metal tab on back of gauge housing?

Re-doing the gauge wood and on the backside where the metal is there is a small metal tab.What's it for?

It appears that it is meant to catch on the back edge of the parcel shelf to prevent the bottom of the gauge cluster panel from creeping forward.
