Hi All,

I recently took the plunge and bought a 1972 3.0CS, and have been spending far too much time reading through all of the helpful posts.

My first (of I'm sure many questions to follow) is, how is the metal trim on the shifter console (below the window switches) supposed to be affixed to the shifter surround? Mine is loose on the driver's side.

Thanks,
Steve

Hi the trim has two pins that push through holes in the console. the pins then have a spring clip pushed over them to grip it to the console. you have to remove the console to get to them easily

The trim has 2 posts on them over which a metal speed connector slides on to hold it from underneath.

in order to remove the shifter surround, pull the switches in the middle of the panel. you will find a small screw below on each side ... you have to remove that screw and then you can lift the panel up. there will be wires to the window switches and the wiper speed and cigarette lighter that will keep you from moving the panel too far.

Remove the two switches for the rear windows to get to the screws that hold this part to the transmission tunnel

If you can't find the speed clips you could always glue them down, it's unlikely you will ever need to take them off again.

Cheers. John

One trick with speed clips, if they are solid material, there is a good chance that you can cut a thread on them and use a normal nut to secure them.
Can be used for the trunk 2800 / 3.0/ Cs/ Csi /CSL badges as well.

How do you remove the wiper switch bezel from the metal trim plate on the console?
