Here is the model code sheet attached to the trunk bulkhead behind the passenger side seat. 3436 denotes a US spec 3.0CS automatic. All coupes have a four digit model code, CS vs CSi, US vs ROW, manual vs automatic. This is how the assembly line workers knew what they were working on.

I don't think so. I believe that is a sequential number that Karmann used in their factory (an internal serial number of that supplier) - completely separate from the chassis code and VIN.

It's interesting to me that it appears the factory applied the sticker "after" the horse hair rub strips were glued on. I would assume the sticker would have been the first thing applied.

Mine is under the horsehair. And a 70xx is a 74 facelift coupe, another discriminator.
