It just seems that if you need a legit email address, then it should be pretty hard for the bots to register and post.

Maybe we should put in place something that requires a two step registration with a mailback link or something,.

Actually, I was getting ready to ask the same thing. Doesn't this forum software come with a spam filter? If not, time to upgrade the forum software.

It does, but even with it, some of it slips through. We try to keep the board clean. I know I end up deleting about 10-15 spam posts/day.

I really think the powers that be need to consider upgrading the forum software. These spammers are getting in with impunity.

Its very hard to stop them from getting in. I have run quite a few forums over the last few years, and unless you constantly upgrade the security to the latest and greatest every week they will get through.

The automated spam bots can be dealt with to an extent, but human spammers can't be stopped. Just because they're scum sucking bottom dwellers doesn't mean there are software programs that can filter them out.
