MotorTrend Rewind Review. January, 2025

I'm particularly fond of BMW's design language from the 1970's through the 1980's, the E24 being one of my favorites. Similar thoughts apply to vintage Detroit iron.. cars such as mustangs, corvettes, impalas, bel-airs, and I've finally developed a taste for JDM cars from Japan (I enjoy driving my turbo'd STI.)

This comment in the Motortrend article caught my attention: "BMW is soon to revisit these Neue Klasse design themes on its next-generation cars, but the overall sense of restrained elegance probably won’t be there."

I am curious to see what emerges from that design effort...

"Torque multiplication was by way of either a four-speed manual or a three-speed automatic"

Yep, the automatic multiplies torque by zero, still a multiplication...

Nice article. I particularly liked this line - "The BMW that built the 3.0 CS was a different company."
"one happy to speak a bit quieter and let the product do the talking. The engineering was there, the requisite luxury features were there, and it was all wrapped in a beautiful package, but it wasn’t shouty. No enormous grilles or interior light shows..."

To echo a bit of that… yes, the E24 is second only to the E9 in my opinion. I’ve been looking for one to add to the stable.

I think many of us are very disappointed in the BMW lineup and have been for many years. Couple of standouts but by inlarge the technology sucks, the styling is horrific and there is no imagination and don’t even get me started on the prices for this sub par crap.

i like the look of the e24, a lot ... the m6 is a good upgrade ... but honestly i like the e21 323i and the e28 m5 a lot more. and who can deny the greatness of the e30 m3.

M6 = $

only problem with the e24… horse power malaise days of the era.

agree on on the E30 m3… such a 80’s icon.
