I am about to begin my resto re-assembly... The PO had done a mickeymouse job of locating the ECU in the glovebox area. (this car was OEM with carbs...)

Does anyone who has retro-fit a motronic ECU in that area have a pic of how it was done as far mounting points go?

Many thanks for any help. Thanks, DCG

ECU location above glovebox

This was easy. I first installed my Motronic 179 ECu above the glovebox and my new Megasquirt is there well. There is ample room above the glove box. I first glued some small wood blocks to the metal, intalled some brackets to same and then mounted the ECU. You don't even know it's there.

I can get some photos if you need some. SF don was my engine guy too.

Installation location

I took one shot here of the installed MS ECU which was about the same size as the Motronic unit. You can see that it is tucked up against the underside of the flat passenger side storage tray next to the upper inner fender panel. There is a space there just big enough to tuck the ECU. First, I glued two wooden blocks to make an anchor mounting point. Originally, I screwed the motronic unit with bracket directly into these wooden blocks. The MS unit doesn't have that bracket so I used two very large tie downs to secure the MS box to the same wooden blocks that had space above them. Once you get in there, you will see what I'm talking about and you can improvise several ways. But the space is there and make sure the ECU is secured in their as those electronic brains don't like being shaken much according to SFDon. Once you're done, the ECU is hidden from view and you have a normal functioning glove box!
