Hello all. I'm in the process of mounting my ECU. The harness is from a 5 series versus the longer harness from the 6 series. I followed the suggestions and images available from the search as best I could but need a little more clarity by way of photos. Can someone post a few pictures of the ECU with the glovebox in - I'm trying not to cut the glove box. I've also noticed three existing screw holes at the top rear (bottom side) of the front dash. I don't recall what attaches to it but it can be used to mount one side of the ECU. As a reference, I've cut the whole between the condenser fittings and blower hose to pass the harness into the cabin. I've read where SFDon had a write up that he sent others in the past. Can you or anyone reading this post, post it here as a permanent technical reference?

I hope this makes sense without images and thank you in advance. Any and all pictures of the area in question would be appreciated. Thank you to all the tech savvy folks who have posted pictorials of their projects. I am also attempting to remember how to reassemble my glove box; it's been a decade since i disassembled it. Nothing on reassembly in the search either (deQuincey ...help?). I'd just close the box and eyeball positioning if I did not have a parts corral.

Blah, blah, blah. Thank you.

Roger

Sorry I have never posted a dyi on that.
I do cut the back of the box.

Haven't mounted the ECU yet but Paul Cain JB Welded a bracket above the box on flat panel that is under fresh air plenum. Here is my hole, just inboard of glove box reinforcement bracket inside.

Thank you, Chris. I made the whole based off of the image in this photo/link a few weeks back (http://e9coupe.com/forum/showthread.php?t=13187&highlight=Motronic+install). I'm really interested in seeing Paul's and/or your mounting bracket. I feared with Velcro the box would not be secure enough. Also, does it need to be grounded, ie, metal to metal? Before I started drilling and cutting, I wanted to ask twice, cut once.

Hi Roger,

for my understanding it doesn't have to be grounded seperately.

It is possible to place the ECU without cutting the glovebox. The mentioned 3 screwholes are there to secure the dashboard. Normally they are occupied from a bracket in U shape, screwed with a 6mm.

I personally mounted 2 flat pieces of steel, while the dashboard was out. Normally I would like to have this "construction" additionally attached to the fire wall, but at that time engine compartment was already painted and I didn't like to drill a hole into fresh paint (although it wouldn't disturb to much). Because of the low weight of the ECU it's working like it is and without this 3rd bearing.

Here is the situ in my car:

I don't have a photo but his bracket is flat and larger than ECU, extends beyond side edges of ECU, then folds down on either side for attachment to ECU. JBWeld is very strong and it has survived 16 years in Paul's coupe.

Arnie, thank you for the image and insight. I greatly appreciate your chiming in and having another visual reference.

Chris, thank you, again. I connected the wiring harness today and have a clearer understanding of how far/close to the right "a" pillar I can mount the ECU. I misplaced one of the c brackets that hold down the dashboard. If I can see how you mounted yours, it would be helpful. For anyone with a clear shot of how the c brackets are mounted, I'd welcome a visual.

Thank you all in advance.
