I understand how it mounts. Removal was easy but now I can´t get it back.
I have checked that the bullet ends will retract although the spring is very strong.

I tried hitting the base with a rubber hammer:
with one end into its slot and the other outside
with both outside, thus aiming to insert both bullet ends in one go

Thanks,
Peder

I remember struggling with this two years ago when I reassembled my coupe. Yea, the thing came right of, but just wouldn't snap back into place.

Unfortunately I don't recall exactly how I solved the problem. I'm sure I didn't use a hammer to get it to seat. I remember putting some oil on the bullets to help them slide along their receptacles.

Might it work to seat one side, and then use a screwdriver to compress the bullet on the other side while pushing the mirror up into place?

It has been a while...but how about inserting one side first, but at an angel (not square), then twisting the neck close to the base while pushing into the other side...you will have the best leverage
i.e.: IIRC, sitting from the drivers seat insert driver-side, with the bullet/endpoint lower than centerline (dash)...then push the opther side (popping it in) while twisting the neck toward square (dash direction, squaring up orientation)...I hope this makes sense

I have never used a hammer...it doesn't look like a hammer should be used...it is all about leverage against the spring.

This task is best done with a helper. Angle one bullet end into slot and have the helper hold it there. Use a appropriate sized slotted screwdriver and with force, push in other side of bullet pin. This should snap mirror into place. A rubber dead blow hammer may also come in handy as the bullet pins are held in tension with a super strong spring and is really hard to compress.

do not use a hammer

i have just done this two days ago

dismount is easy, ok

pre-mount: first clean the spring and both ends, grease it, then grease the hole in the roof of the car

mount: introduce one end (pin) inside the hole, and using your hands turn-and-press until the other enters,

i.e., if you introduce the right pin in the hole, use your right hand to press the right side of the base of the mirror against the roof, and put your left hand in the black bar (mirror support) near the mirror itself, and rotate whilist you push upwards

the force you make with your left hand works as a lever, so the force is multiplied and it works !

best luck
