Moved my front plate a second time. I was lucky enough to get my coupe into my shop for a few days so I moved my front plate to a more appealing location. I had already dropped it down & angled it back (first photo) but was never 100% happy with the results, when you looked at it from above you could always see the bracket thru a space between the bumper & the plate. I was already fabricating some stainless in the shop so the bracket ended up being some stainless scrap (saves on painting time <grin>). The bracket jogs up behind the bumper so the top ½” of the plate is hidden, doing that and bending the plate back makes it seem smaller……. or somehow a little less obnoxious at least to my taste.

I had already added an aftermarket body side molding to the leading edge of the center of the bumper, I feel it looks too narrow to be in proportion to the side bumper rubbers but it is better than looking at holes in the leading edge of the bumper. Someday I hope to replace it with a wider rubber from a 71-72 Super Beatle bumper but that will require a bit of reworking the center bumper and the inside openings of the bumper guards to accept the center bumper’s new profile……. another more involved project for another day.

Another thing I noticed during this Spring cleanup / shapeup is my wipers weren’t fully landing anymore even though I had already aligned the actuation crank to the linkage in the past. So I’m now wondering  if the crank slipped on the motor’s driving shaft or if the motor is now stopping in a new place ?? Thoughts anyone ? ~ John Buchtenkirch

That is a great aesthetic compromise. If you feel the energy to pull a Stan and start making these bracket, I'd be in for one.

Bob, thank you for the compliment, I had already saved the pattern and will certainly keep your suggestion in mind for down the road. Unfortunately taking care of my 91 year old mom just eats up a lot of my time now. ~ John Buchtenkirch

P.S. Do all coupe front bumpers have 2 holes spaced about 4" apart where I bolted this bracket on ?
