I found this chart posted on Miklós Mészáros's Facebook page.

For reference, $8,100 in 1970 is worth $50,450.32 in 2015.

That puts some perspective on the cost of these cars.

The Hemmings Sports & Exotic Car review article in 9/2011 of the 1974 CS with 4,500 miles on it indicated the owner (son of a BMW dealer in the '70's) stated the 'book price' in '74 was $10-12K for CS's, but buyers actually paid $15-16K in that era. So, 50-90% escalation between '70 and '74.

Didn't Hoffman convince BMW to bring a stripped down Bavaria in at $4995.00 to bring it in under the magic $5,000.00? I believe there were ads with that number in the headline in the early 70s. Anyone remember?

By late 1973 a coupe was $13K and a `74 coupe was $16.5K due to the shrinking value of the German currency. I was told that the last `74 coupes were still in dealer inventory in mid 1975.
