Most will not know this, but Murray was involved with what we call "BWT" or ballast water treatment. He, with others, developed and tested a viable and patented system for treating ballast water from ships landing stateside from foreign ports. Also the system would work aboard the ship. The goal of course is the abatement of foreign and invasive species, damaging US waters, brought to us in the ballast water of ships. He was able to get me excited about this and as a marine engineer I have contacts as well as experience with barges, ships, etc. I really put my best foot forward as to push this technology on my side of the industry, even before his diagnosis I felt this may be his ultimate legacy, helping the planet. Of course there are hundreds if not thousands of pages of information to digest as well as the murky world of USCG CFR's. Bottom line is that the legislation is moving forward and this not a matter of if but when. Company owners of course will use the cheapest methods available until forced to upgrade or use shoreside services.
I had really hoped to make more progress on pushing his technology and realize some action before his death....not to be. Anyone interested in this, whether you are a scientist, engineer, sales person or activist and you think you may be able to help, please feel free to contact me.

I've never meet Mr. Murray in person. I've heard about him and one day saw him on the road in Costa Mesa. I was at a classic dealership and was driving back home after a test drive. I saw blue max glimmering in the sunlight from the corner of my left eye I was driving south (surface streets) And something internal , spiritual told me it was this man and car I've always heard of. I made a u turn to follow. (E36 M3) (Young and wet behind the ears) I finally caught up. (Murry can sure drive) Waved at him , he waved back and speed off into the next light which I was unable to catch up. (Rush hours) Later that night I track down his number through this website. I called him and told him it was me waving. He said , "yes , I wanted to stop but to much traffic" He's in heaven now because that's where he belongs!!!! GOD BLESS HIS SOUL!!! (They don't make them like Murray anymore!!!!) Honest, Truthful, Upfront, Where a man can shake your hand for a deal!! Where a man word is good as gold!!! I diden't live in that era but I felt his ambiance and his honesty and sincerity. I've talked for about an hour. He edcuated me on everything I needed to know about coupes. Thank you Murray!!

Murray and I briefly discussed this project once. I told him one of the hats I wear at work is manager of the operator of our water treatment system that I designed. That got his attention and he wanted to know more. I told him it was designed to remove the heavy metals we introduce to the water stream as a part of our metal treatment processes. He told me about the project he was working on and we realized my system would not be suitable for that application. Of course, Murray being Murray urged me to look into his project more. I knew my background and knowledge would be of little use to the project and informed Murray of this. Being a gentleman, he understood and never mentioned it again.

I almost forgot about it until it was mentioned at his Memorial.

Well,
This certainly up your alley.....water treatment is biological, as you know. Also UV being used in most systems to kill bacterial....same as what Marenco has designed. In Canada at the present time there is a number of port projects on the table. Not to say they will go through in the end, but part of this will be to satisfy enviromentalists and people of concern about ballast water. Suffice to say that big oil has big pockets and someone of your expertise would be capable of designing a large shoreside system to the Marenco spec. May never happen but there is money in the feasability studies.....most of which Marenco has done as well as patents, USCG acceptance letters, etc. Again....I said to email me personally....
