Site 415L was quite the vantage spot for multiple days of vintage racing...
  1. Here's a panoramic shot from the hillside adjacent to my tent.
  2. Cool time lapse of the Jagermeister CSL, M1, Luigi CSL and the Zac Brown (McLaren) 3xx series cars lining up for the race.
  3. I like engine swaps. Check out the 240Z with a Corvette LS3 in it. Nice fender flairs...
  4. Mercedes '55 Gullwing 310SL Racecar..
  5. Ford GT40...
  6. Sweet red 3.0csi in the paddocks... 20 spokes.. real Alpinas I believe (I just read sfdon's thread on identifying Alpina rims).
  7. One of six of the legendary Shelby Daytona coupes...
  8. There's something about this '58 Lister that reminds me of a woman laying in bed... all those curves.

I'd like to personally thank Mr Lafngravy (Steve Walker) for letting my son sit in the '73 Luigi; Leo doesn't know who Hans Stuck is yet, but I'll educate him. In a similar fashion, it was really cool to meet a fellow SoCal E9'er, Mr Chris Matcha who had a friend with him.. WKohler the E28 engine mechanic (did I get that right?). Finally, there was a cool Irish guy working on the Porsche 962 Hydro Aluminum Vehicle... we were talking about all the radiators.. oil, intercooler, water, rear diff fluid.. and the synchronized twin turbos on the flat V6 engine. Like Steve Walker, this gentleman offered my son the chance to sit in a Porsche 962 while we talked race technology. (Thank goodness for my Subaru STI.. I understood about 90% of what we talked about on that 962.. but there are no magnesium parts on my Subaru.)

The engine mechanic on the 962 mentioned he has a UK M-shop. Perhaps he's fairly well known to some of our UK and European friends?

As far as wrecks and other track issues.. don't ever race a Corvair against Shelby Cobras, Mustangs, Porsches and Vintage Corvettes.. the poor driver dropped fluids all over the track and shutdown the Ken Miles large displacement run. Real bummer, that's one of my favorite races... I'm a BMW / Subaru guy, but I love the sound of those V8's at 6500 rpm! The 80's formula one accident between turns 11 and 1 (going up the hill) was quite spectacular.. one of the cars displaced tires from the berm.. it was a good thing to watch that driver climb out under his own power; hope he's ok. I got educated on aerodynamics on the '63 Chaparral; neat body shape. I saw the Skoal Bandit TransAm.. I recall seeing that in Pensacola, FL in like 1985 or so.. there was a Porsche 935 with the Vasek Polak name on it. Finally, I'd say it was quite interesting to watch all the mid 50's/60's Mini Coopers and Alfas run... pretty sporty.. kinda reminded my of my Subie in a weird way..

So, I hope to meet more of you at the SoCal Vintage BMW Show at Woodley Park, Van Nuys, and at Laguna Seca in 2025. Perhaps my '70 2800 will be moving under its own power by then? Err.. maybe not. I do have a 9 and 11 year old.. but the nine year old is stoked to wrench with his dad after sitting in the Luigi.. so there is hope!
