Shifting mood from bickering to celebration here are a few pictures of the car I just got for my son. Every visit to the boy at UCSD includes a pilgrimage to Carl Nelson, this time to get an assortment of E9 cooling hoses. But you never know what you'll leave the place with.

Well, I left with a neat 5 speed 318i E36 (one owner, maintained at La Jolla Independent). Carl just did the intro to a customer that was selling, so I got it, cancelled the Southwest ticket and drove the 500 miles home...I have to admit that BMW made fun cars well into 1998. This one has a close ratio transmission and it is indeed fun to drive around town or highway. Harold in Mountain View has been helping sort everything out and we are almost done. Mid June the boy takes possession.

I apologize I didn't seek the board's opinion on this one, but it happened really fast, and it may have exacerbated the board's divisions around purchase worthiness and so on.

And how does this relate to E9? It is a warning tale on things that can happen when you shop for E9 hoses...

PS: Yes, I got the hoses allright.

Nice car!

I am sure Gabriel will enjoy it.

BTW, any idea what it's worth? (hee hee!)

Cheers.

I am out of town this weekend working, but let's try to get together soon.

My only concern around the E36 value is the insurance and their tendency to
total the car for any minor damage. They pull some bogus ad somewhere
in California to show that your car is equivalent to that lowball one.
I have an agreed value on the E9 with Hagerty, but I don't think I can do
that for a daily driver.

See you next week then.

Time for a DASC!

What is a DASC?

Downing Atlanta SuperCharger. It is a supercharger kit for the E36 318, bumps the power up to ~200rwhp. It uses an older Eaton blower. Very nice kit. If it is his first car, you may want to hold off a bit, but it would probably be a good bonding experience to put it on together.
