My car needs a cam

My 73 Bavaria 3.0 auto has some flat spots on some of the cam lobes. I have added some valve lash caps. My friend who is a retired BMW tech who used to work on these cars back in he day says it needs a cam. I have a 74 parts car with a good engine. supposedly the cam are the same. Can I just pull the cam out of the 74 manual and put it in the 73 auto? The car does not idle smooth like my 71 e3 with its 3.3 engine

I think it would be easier just to swap the entire cylinder head.

thanks Mike. in the past when I have taken a head off of a BMW I used to send them out to have them checked to see they were warped, but in this case you may be right. Set them at top dead center then swap them over. The parts car head looks really new, it has not been run in over 10 years The last time I did something like this was about 30 years ago. by the way I did get the e28 front and back seats installed in my 73. they look great. I will write something about that soon, thanks for the encouragement
