I've heard that the cars get handled pretty poorly in movie / commercial sets. Is that not true?

We send Every car out with a Handler usually the Owner!

First I own 30 Vintage Exotic Cars some are 100% original and I know exactly how people feel about their cars... In most cases the cars are backround props and are Static (not moving) but once in a while the car will pull up into the shot and people get out or just pull away out of frame.

Second NO car we provide to Production Companies goes out without a Handler to guarantee that the car is safe... In most case we prefer the owner is the handler but if necessary we will pick the car up on a flatbed and supply a handler... The owner is also always provided a $1,000,000 Cert of Insurance.

I always tell the owners that when on set if there is anything you are not comfortable with then it will not happen...

Lady GaGa at the Grammy Awards, Tom Cruise+Cameron Diaz, Sophia Veraga, George Clooney all in my personal cars/bike!

If only Kelly McDonald (Mrs. Thompson in Boardwalk Empire) were the narrator...I'd watch the ad over and over listening to her beautiful Scotch accent. When will the ads run over there? Christmas advertising has already started here as though Thanksgiving didn't even exist...Nice coupe...same color as mine.

Cars in adverts / films

Hi folks, thanks for the comments. The Christmas adverts have started here in the UK already. Apparently the TK Maxx advert containing my CSi started on Saturday in the breaks between different parts of the X Factor Show. I've not seen the ad on TV yet, but it will be a strange feeling seeing my own car on the telly! An Irish version for TK Maxx ie has been done as well with a different narrator, but same advert, so I'm assuming ad will be shown in Ireland too.

As far as getting your car onto film sets, I have only very limited experience of this. Other than this advert, my CSi was taken along to some filming of a forthcoming film - The Railway Man, starring Nicole Kidman and Colin Firth. In that one, my car may or may not be seen in the background of a set. A few 70's cars were there for possible background shields to hide anything modern that may be in shot and the wrong period.

From what I've been told, the production companies like the owner to be there if possible, they can get you to move the car on / off / about the set. And if they want to do something you're not happy with, you say no!

Ah, Dave, I've just seen the TV ad and posted the question of who owns the car. Having dug around I've just found your post. Your CSi is identical in looks to my CSL. So much so that a friend just texted me asking if it was my car in the ad. Out of interest how did it come about? The car looks in great condition, you must be chuffed.

Regards
Rob

CSi in advert

Hi Rob, cheers for posting. The whole thing came about because I'm the Secretary of a local Classic Car Club. We are at http://www.taysideclassiccarclub.co.uk/ I also do the Club Website. We have a wide range of cars in the club, and are more into the fun and driving rather than concours events or serious. We are a non-profit making group. We hold an annual Classic Car Show which is a lot of work, but very worthwhile. We normally manage to get about 400 classic vehicles into a Scottish field - and out again! All profit we make goes to local children's charities.

In Scotland we have a fairly small classic car community, and a chap from another Club now runs a business sourcing and supplying vehicles for use in film sets and TV commercials etc.

Earlier this year he was looking for a few local based classics to attend at Perth Railway station for filming of the Railway Man, a movie still in production but scheduled for 2013. The film stars Nicole Kidman and Colin Firth. As the filming was in our area, he contacted me looking for some volunteers. He needed a few cars to be on the set, to be used as a possible shield to block out anything modern from any background as the film was being set in a working railway station. I went along to that, and it was an interesting day.

This advert came about when the production company were given a list of possible vehicles in Scotland. I have been told that the production company went for my CSi and a VW campervan because the colours, with snow on, matched the corporate logo colours for the TK Maxx company. On speaking with the Director, he also told me that he saw the CSi and wanted to use it because he used to own one!

The car is actually in need of a bit of TLC, and restoration work. Its amazing what can be hidden by a ton of fake snow! I have plans to replace a few panels and parts during the winter, and get the car looking better for next year. Alas, I have said that for the past few winters!!
