While poking around, I found something mounted to the inside of the firewall behind the glove box. I don't think it is original. Rather, I assume it is some aftermarket gadget that a PO had installed. Does anyone recognize what this thing is/was? Just curious.

so, does the car have fuel injection? if so, maybe a holder to mount an ECU ... if not, a holder to mount a stereo accessory like a CD player or something.

While I really wish the flux capacitor was still in place, it sounds like this "thingy" was most definitely an audio or alarm device. There are some incorrect speaker wires running about, and the key came with a little alarm remote thingamabob on the ring. The car never had EFI. Thanks for confirming this.

A related question, that little loom of wires that should be in the clip. What are these supposed to be doing? I believe they are cut just outside this frame, and is why they are not in the metal clip anymore...

Thank you aearch and Wladek! I had it pegged for an aftermarket gadget, but am pleased to learn that it is the bracket for the Becker radio. I've said it before - I learn something new about this car every time I look at it. As you might imagine, there is no radio anywhere near the console currently. It is missing just like the amplifier is. But at least I know what to look for to be "original". Thanks again!
