Mystery Block

Need help identifying my block, nothing visible but the number "1" about 3/8" tall below the #4 intake. Can't see a thing at the back by the starter, including the flat area that flares out at about a 15 degree angle. And nothing visible below #'s 1 and 2 either. Could it be someone slipped an early 2.8 in there? The head is from a '77 so it's had a few adventures.

Eureka....found it!!

The April 1 thread started by Tripower had the secret. Hadn't seen that link to the picture on page 6 of the manual, missing from mine. The winning number, barely ledgible, is 3102341, doesn't match the chassis so on with the research.

Try running the block number with Mobile Tradition. I had a mystery block (no numbers) that I gave them the serial number for and they told me I had a 2.8L from a '71 E3....i think the head was a '79...... :roll:

But after replacing it, now I know exactly what I got :twisted:

3102341 was a 71-73 US spec Bavaria 3.0 4 speed in the range 3100001-3106942
