Mystery wires?

In the course of my dash restoration, I come to these unconnected wires. Both are left side, one exits the harness near the headlight switch, so I am suspecting maybe fog light switch provision (which my car does not have). The other light gauge black wire with two spaced terminals, one mile, one female dips out of the dash around the driver’s knee.

Anyone know what these are and where they belong?

these are for the fog light - see also the wiring diagram:

Where does the double connector black wire go to under the dash? It doesn't look stock to me.

Thanks for the help. That black wire disappears up behind the clock area. I hope someone can add more about the possibility of AC controls (or whatever).

The car does have air which is not functional.

The “fog light” response for the other wires seems right, but in a car without fog lights I would not expect to see that set of wires just flopping around there. Of course a lot can happen to a 50+ year old car.

Again, I appreciate the responses and hope more can chime in.

Brown wires are generally grounds. Is the black wire hot?...if so when is it hot? When the ignition key is off...when it is on...when the headlights are on??

See if the black wire goes to the compressor. With a long lead and a VOM you can check continuity.
In the diagram you see the black wire plugging into the AC fan switch and the temp switch going to the compressor. I don't recall my 71 having some of the components in Dick's schematic but it has been a few years,

I would look at the fact they can only reach so far, what is within that reach The male connector is a bit longer than std so it should fit into a connector or one of those inline connectors My bet it is the wire that goes between the behind console connector #6 to the temp switch #11 or the other side at the change over relay #5 Both within the reach of that wire my .01/2 cents worth

Thanks, Rick

The two black wires sit in the nr 6 connector on the AC diagram. I remeber now, hence the longer spade. See the picture... It comes from the changeover relais. The black male connector is on the right. The female goes to the temp switch.

Awesome!

Thanks all!

These cars are fairly simple once you get familiar with German translation of color and what functions correlate to color.
