Just to give you all a mainstream data point from Carmax (don't start; I really wasn't going to sell it to them), I recently took my daughter's pristine 2010 328i with 38,000 miles (that's correct) and was offered $4,000. The story I got was that there are no shoppers. No one buying, no one visiting showrooms or lots, so no one is paying to have a car sit in inventory. Apples and oranges, I know, but retail on this car was about $11,000 three months ago... I expect you don't have to look hard to find buy-side deals out there...

A very clean and well maintained Lotus 23b sold for $80k. I don’t recall seeing any in this condition and with similar provenance sell For under $120k in the last 10-15 years. I’d say the vintage car and race car market are bit pretty soft these days. I don’t know yet about the used car market.
