My 1970 2800 CS has combination turn signal & windshield wiper switch mounted on the right side of the column. The numbers on it are: 1355 284 8157-211. The TS part works fine, but the WW part has failed (stuck on). I used to be able to manually pull the knob outward, and then snap it in to shut off the circuit, but now it just wants to work intermittantly.

Maximillan sells new switches for $316.11. Uh, I don't think so. 2002AD has something that looks right, though they don't specify whether it also fits a CS, priced at $178.55 - still kinda high.

Has anyone had any success with:

- Repairing these things? Though, I'd hate to risk messing up the TS function in the process.

- Substituting a simple SPST switch. This thing doesn't control HI/LO speed (I have a separate switch on the console for that) - it's just a simple on-off function. The wiring would be simple, but, I can't think of a neat way to locate a toggle switch that would replace the stalk-mounted switch.

Anyone else been here before, and come up with a creative solution?

bad WSW switch

Jay--recommend that you stop driving your Coupe in the rain where wipers are needed--unplug your wiper motor and avoid $300+ for a switch--apply 3-4 coats of Rainex liberally--and here in SoCal wipers become extraneous!!

I have a used turn signal & windshield wiper switch on stock.
But there are other numbers (1 350 152 8157 on the aluminium socket and SAE0B 8157 on the switch ) on it.
Maybe its the same that you need, i can post pictures if you want.
Dismantled from an E9 console, the turn signal was on the right side.
Price 50€ + shipping

Different part numbers

My TS weren't working and I bought a used one that looked the same. It turned out the P/N was different and it didn't work. Upon closer examination I noticed that the only difference between the two units was where the wires were placed in the connector. I changed a few wires around and it worked. Have turn signals but have to play with the wiper switch a little. I'm happy with it for now.

thanks for the replies!

blumax: You're right, we shouldn't be driving the CS in the rain. However, our CS is a DRIVER - it does get used. A few weeks ago, my wife's car was in the shop, and since the CS is our #3 car, she took it into work for a few days. This gave the CS some excercise, and Catherine a refresher course in driving a stick. Naturally, this was during one of our rare rainy periods.

Orangener: I have found a few of these switches on ebay, and figure I will find one there. I'm not in a hurry - it probably won't rain again here until October. With the exchange rates as they are, I think I can save on the price, as well as on shipping, by finding one here in the States. But, thank you.

indyken46619: Yes, from shopping ebay, I have learned that there are MANY models of these switches that pretty much look alike. 2002's and 2002ti's used a similar switch. I noted the part numbers on my current switch, and figured that I would only buy one with the same #'s. Still, what p/n did you get (it's probably buried beneath your steering wheel)?
