After all the talk about colors (in a wheel thread!) it reminded me of a project I have on my list for this site. I created a color chart for 2002's a while back that was fairly well received. I created one for CS's also, but it didn't turn out very good and I don't like it. Before I put a bunch of time into making a nice one, do you guys think its useful? It would be very similar to the one below. Simple and only exterior colors, unless I can figure out how to put several selections together when choosing interior and exterior color combos. Hmmm.

It should display in most browsers, but every once in a while it won't. Also, its important to remember that colors display differently on every monitor, so don't get too concerned if the colors aren't perfect!

That's a good idea. I can create one in a similar format to the csregistry site but clean it up, then make an interactive version for those who don't have enough to do and like to click on things. I've seen others that link to photos of cars in the color also. What the hell, might as well do all of it!

Dan that's an excellent idea!

Does your hmmm mean you have an idea of how to accomplish showing both exterior and interior colors on the 2002 style color chart? That would be exciting!

If you and your software guys could figure that out it would be especially useful from the perspective of both the purists and also the newly initiated as when searching for a Coupe to restore, some interior colors can go very well with many exteriors (and some definetely do not) but knowing what their car looked like when it left the factory (ala Andreas Harz at BMW...) would be a good way to demonstrably show the registered Coupes that are say no longer serviceable, not on the road, etc. but keep the registry images tidy and representitive of the car's early days....who really wants to see a CSL broken in a junk yard environment anyway? (then again perhaps we all do?) It would also go a long way toward replacing the NO PHOTOS generic default Registry pic with something perhaps a bit more suitable and give you the resource to do so?

Cheers and great job so far Dan!

Fantastic idea but do not forget/omit the most beautiful color of all for an e9, code #068.

Population of Colors

Great idea. As I went through the various examples of colors that were posted I was wondering if there is any record of how many cars were produced with each color code? I know the Germans are great record keepers and I know that my Coupe in Sahara does not show up very often. Personally colors other than Sahara are my favorite but I think this could be another interesting piece of info to add. The CS registry could be a good place to start a tally if BMW Tradition doesn't have it.

Regards Jon
