I just had a new batch of the blue cloths made. They are as original with proper logo. And I also have the valve eccentric adjusting tools, also as original. $40 for the cloth shipped in the USA and $8 for the valve tool shipped in the USA. Or a package deal for both of $45 shipped in the USA

Also I have spin on oil filter adapters. They use a Fram PH8a filter or any other filter for a 460"
Ford. These will fit any of the 3 configured M30 filter heads. The two pics show a complete unit, which I am not selling and then the parts that I am. $130 shipped in the USA. I will ship over seas with the correct postage added on.

Check my feed back.

Bert, sorry for my lack of knowledge but are the 3 pieces the only things I need to make my standard filter base into a spin-on? If so, I think I'd like to order one-

Please advise-Thanks

Hello Peter

Yes the three pieces are exactly what you need plus the spin on of course. You need the plate, the special threaded bushing and of course the O ring.

There are three different configurations of filter head. One is a 4" diameter canister with the bolt from the bottom. The second is a 3 1/2" diameter canister bolted from the bottom and the third is a 3 1/2"canister bolted from the top but with the canister on the bottom. Depending on which one you have, I may have it here or I will make some more. As I said, no longer than a 10 day period to ship.

A spin on adapter is a great mod. I use Royal Purple filters available at Pep Boys, supposedly they are thicker walled to better deal with the pressure/volume from the m30 pump.

Bert,

do these fit so that you can easily get the filter off of the car without spilling oil everywhere? i had one on my bavaria (years ago) and it was a PITA to get the filter out. as i remember, you undid it from underneath the car, then had to rest it on the sub-frame then go pull it out from the top side.

Look at what Stevehose had to say.It is a mega sized improvement

I can tell you it is a lot easier to drop, yes from the bottom, than the canister. I never have oil drop problems on my E24 as I put a plastic bag over the filter when I drop it which stops the oil drip problem. The only top mount filter I know of, IIRC, are for the very late M30s and they will drop oil like crazy as again they mount from the top, topside of the filter down.

So, it isn't messy like the canisters and the increased filtration benefits are superior to the cartridge inserts.

I have mostly sold these to E24 guys, and 4 guys on this forum. I have received only positive responses on them

Bert,

that being said, improvement doesn't connote that it is solved. so question for the 4 guys that have bought them ... does the filter drop out the bottom or does it have to come out the top. Steve, how does yours work.

my point is this, you are correct, the cannister isn't a marvelous solution ... but if i am going to change it ... i want it to work properly ... i don't want to spend money and time for a solution that's just a minor improvement ... know what i mean?

Scott, you are correct, it does come out the top side. Here's what I do:

1. After draining the oil, loosen the filter slightly with the filter socket that fits onto a 3/8 extender bar/knuckle. This is done from under the car.

2. Put 2 plastic grocery bags aroung the filter and undo by hand, oil will start to drip out as soon as it's being unscrewed (if you don't feel lucky you can put a bag around it before you loosen it). I like 2 bags because they always seem to have a pinhole somewhere. Wait until the engine is not hot enough to burn you.

3. Wrap up/tie the bags around the filter and bring it up through the power steering hose/alternator area. Comes straight up, you'll have to move a hose away to get it out. Keep the top of the filter up to minimize oil coming out of the filter.

4. Wipe off the housing and spin another one on.

With practice it can be done without spilling but it's not an end all to that problem. I like being able to have the readily available modern filter. I never felt comfortable with those cheapy looking Mann cartridges and the spring tension system.
