Hi guys,

I've been a fan of the E3 line for many years and finally pulled the trigger and got myself a nice 3.0 Si. For me a big part of the ownership experience is participating in online communities such as this one.

Unfortunately, there is nothing like this for the E3 community in the US. Although the "Senior Six" registry exists to presumably foster an E3 community in the US, I have been incredibly frustrated by their lack of response. In fact, I'm not even sure they are a viable group. In addition there is no forum but only an email list server.

So... I'm trying to gauge the level of interest in such an endeavor. I know nothing about web page creation but I'm a quick study and I'm willing to provide some level of funding.

I'm not sure there are enough Bav enthusiasts left. Heck, most of them are here, due to the level of activity and the significant commonality between the E3 and E9. What if we added a Bav-specific section?

Yeah, maybe that would be a better way to go... and much simpler. In terms of numbers made, the US-bound E3's were something like 75,000 vs. a TOTAL of 31,000 worldwide E9's. But maybe the raw numbers don't translate into followers and fans a few decades later.

There's also the price difference to account for. The E9 was an absurdly expensive car at the time, so it was typically (originally) owned by people who could afford to give them excellent care, hence more of them have survived by percentage. The Bav was half the cost and was at least comparable in price to contemporaries, such as Cadillac or Buick.

Plus, sedans just don't seem to get the same love as coupes do, regardless of make.

Assuming Dan hasn't already been following this thread, I'll bring up the possibility of an E3 section on the board with him and see what he says.

As an E3 owner / driver, I´d rather hang around here with excellent great knowledge, good maners and very good moderation. In general, any issue I have with my E3 is best served by this forum.
A seperate E3 forum would probably have much less traffic and therby be less helpfull

So if you guy´s dont mind, I think officially welcoming the E3ers to the E9 forum (maybe even inviting them as a policy) would serve both sides best.

Honstely, the E3 and the E9 are technically so close to each other, the difference is little more than 2 doors and a multiple in price...

I have owned four e3 cars and four e9 cars. Loved all of them. Always interested in both although only have room for coupes. It's a big tent. All welcome in my opinion.

Francesco, thanks for your reply. 7 years for an answer...wow. I've tried to subscribe to the SSR but I've not been successful in getting anybody to subscribe me for over a month.

In regards to the tranny in my "new" E3 and photos. I don't have the car yet. I will see it for the first time in a week and back home in a couple of weeks. I did see in a picture from underneath that the tranny dispstick comes up on the driver's (left) side of the car so it must be a 3HP22. I will reach out to you once I have the car for your procedure on the proper way to change the ATF in it.

Thanks!

I would love to see an e3 Topic area in this forum where specific e3 issues could be discussed. I think it would bring more owners here too as I have heard from other e3 owners who feel the current setup is lacking.

I agree that the E3`s should be included here. There are so many similarities , and they are sllowly becoming forgotten...Alex

I'd like to keep the focus on e9's but per HBChris a separate e3 forum listed along with the other topics would be good.

I broached the topic with Dang. He was not against the idea, but he also didn't want it to sit empty. How many people would actually use the E3 section? If it is a significant number, he shouldn't have a problem with it.

I think it would thrive. There are already a few robust E3 threads somewhere on this board that you can move to the new section to get it going.

It seems like E3 traffic on other US-based BMW forums never really gets going because the lack of critical mass and the fact that E3's are bundled in with "Classics". The international forums, as Francesco pointed out, are not that great either.

The E3/E9 overlap is such that from the get go we have a huge base of resident know-how. Except for the inscrutable SSR mailing list, this could become the largest repository of E3/E9 knowledge.

If the rules of internet forum etiquette don't frown upon this, I would publicize the grand opening on the other less-visited forums.

Let me know how I can help.

I think it would get more traffic than Off Topics.

Touché.

Luis-
You are correct in that the other big US forum has kinda lumped things together, but at the same time there are very, very few E9 guys there. It is mostly newer stuff. (albeit biased towards the E36) I'm glad the Classic section is there at least as a signpost.
