New guy here!!! Been an E9 fan for a long time. I was cruising the local strip when a roofline caught my eye. I turned around and investigated. Parked out front was an older fella from Vt in his beloved 73 couple. I parked next to him and we chatted for 10 min or so. He had a Tan pigskin leather which I was unaware was factory. In 2003 I had sold my 73Tii/Ti, and I really miss the times we cruised the mountain passes. A couple of coupes on eBay caught my eye. But after checking in here I realized I was in for a big surprise being a long distance buyer. You guys gave me the reality check I needed. Others accuse me of being overly particular.... I know you fokes understand their lack of culture! So I may be looking to carry on the care of someone’s E9 in the future. Donations are accepted!!

Welcome Bob!
My donations can start right away with a full set of TRX wheels I removed from my E24. If you are an IRS recognized charity I can deduct them this tax year.

Welcome, Bob!
Where you located? I'm over in the Hanover/Lyme area but the usual route that I take the coupe out on is in the rt114/118/112 area.

Hi Arde,

Do you have a pic of those wheels?

Thank you,
Mike

TRX wheels on E9

Hi Arde,

Do you have a pic of those wheels?

Thank you,
Mike
Here is a picture of them on an E9. They work great for holding up cars waiting for restoration!

Thanks I'm up in Conway. Been to Hanover nice village a couple of times and of course Dartmouth Hitch****. Done a couple of club road rallies thru there. Some nice class 6 roads for great winter ralling which beats driving our cars on the gravel. Have you done any club ice racing up in Bristol?

I am over near Portsouth. You might check with Mario Langsten at Vintage Sports & Racing. Bow NH. He may have a coupe for sale soon!
My chamonix CS is staying with me.
They are fun to drive :)

Thanks for the tip in Bow. Chamonix is one of my favorite colors. The CCA founding Club sec Parker Spooner had a 72/73 era CS in Chamonix. To me it stood out......may be its not the color. Those Italian lines, catch my eyes every time before the color enters my head! Portsmouth is a nice town. I was stationed at Pease AFB 64/65. I considered Portsmouth to moor my sail boat. Then Piscataqua River was going to determine when I was going leave and return.

+ 1 on VSR recommendation.

In response to your question: no ice racing for me - unless you include the parking lot grand prix at Dartmouth.

Hi Tod,
Nope, I'm a flat-lander from Calif. I've only been in this area for about 6 years - I took a job at the college. Send me a PM if you come driving through.

We've had a house in fairlee vt in our family for several generations, I know the area well, my sister lives in hanover, spent every summer there as a kid - beautiful area!

NH

May I come visit ! I'll have to say New Hampshire /Vermont area were the most beautiful places I have been!I'm in Newbury Park ,Ca and it's tough to beat it for sports cars, but you guys have the beauty...

I91

Ah, the upper valley....

One of my favorite drives is route 10 north to Lyme, across to Thetford and then take I91 south for the speed route or route 5 for the cruise. Go as fast as you want on I91. No traffic or enforcement in that area. Ever.

The other loop is take a right after crossing Ledyard Bridge. Follow route 5 north to the Oppompanossic road on the left. Follow that road to the end and then take a left back towards Norwich. Take the left at 4 corners and follow that, mindful of the transition to gravel. Dumps you back on Route 5. Try it at night for a real challenge :).

Those were foolish, foolish times back in high school.

Next time take Route 10 past Thetford to Fairlee, take the Lake Morey road to the north end of the lake (watch out for Leon - the local annoying cop who patrols the town and lake road) then take the back road to Bradford (I think it's Maurice Roberts road) which is 3 miles of hills and turns, then take Route 5 back to Fairlee or go north into town, either way catching 91 back south. 2 places I'd love to drive my coupe - through VT/NH and the Pacific coast hiway.

apologies to Bob for the hijack

"Those were foolish, foolish times back in high school." ... or last week.

I tend to stick to the NH side of the river for some reason. Points for anybody that can name the location of my photo in post #73 in the "lets see some pics of your coupe" thread.

When I first moved here, I was biking quite a bit so I found the good roads the hard way. When I do cross the river, my drive is a combination of both of yours: 5 to 244 around the lake to 113-110-89 briefly-132 back to town. Rt132 was just repaved and is super-smooth. Actually, some of the smaller roads in the 4corners area have also been redone and a quite nice.

Definitly not for a classic car unless you arrived in an enclosed trailer. The racing is really safe. Time trial style only two cars on course at any one time. Then there is the rental they get usually a GMC 4x4 crew cab, fills up with backseat drivers, lots of fun.

ice racing

Ditto on the apologies to the thread hijack.

Great pic, Bob, on the ice racing photo in the 5 series. I have a white E28 5er also. I may just have to make the drive north in February.
