BMW recently came out with this product, available for cars with and without a sunroof.
It includes the hard, moulded front section, but not the sun visors.

I have now tried it on one car, without a sunroof. It looks very good.
The problem now is to mount all the chrome along the A and C pillar as well as the section that holds the door seals along the sides of the roof line.

I wasn´t aware that 100% of this had to come out in order to replace the headliner.
The question now is: can the door seals be inserted into the screwed on alu retainer (about 1" wide) by working from one end, ensuring that the stiff base sllides into the alu rail, OR should we do it the way I did 2 years ago: by prying in in sideways, causing damage to the stiff base on several areas.
Either way it´s a real PITA.

Another car, with a sunroof, is at another upholstry shop. I will go there tomorrow and see how they are getting on.

Any links to this? Where did you get it? My Coupe REALLY needs a headliner, and this sounds interesting.....

Part numbers

Just ask your local BMW dealership to order them. Don´t recall the price. Probably close to 1.000$ each.

And I am hoping to hear about people´s experience on mounting those bloody door seals...

Material match

Does the new headliner match the existing pattern and texture? We have some options from World Upholstery here in the States that are similar but not exact.

I am a couple of months away from installing the rubber seals, so cannot help at present.
good luck,

how about posting a picture of the installation. even if it isn't in your coupe ... or if you can post the 2 fabrics side by side

Jerry,

I've seen those and they do look very similar to the pattern; I've seen a different post with some headliner pattern variations as well as one for a 2002 replacement, though not sure where I saw it.

Great link, great pic's...the write up would be interesting to read if existing. Particularly how the car is inverted...

installing door seal

I don't think you would be able to install the door seal by sliding it in from one end...way too much resistance. So that means you have to slide the rubber in "sideways," as you describe it. It is a pain, but once it gets started, it seems to fit in place fairly well. I did it with a used rubber strip which was a little stiff...I imagine it would be easier with new rubber pieces. Remember to have a beer when you get it all done...
