(ps, i work for BMW's advertising agency in austin)

please comment as the opinions of this group are more important to me than all others.

A very pretty commercial, no doubt about it, but I'm not sure the demographic will care, as most of the M3's I've seen will spend most of their time creeping along in traffic, cell in one hand, latte in the other, driven by someone who couldn't do a lap if their life depended on it. So, catering to the gearhead/enthusiast won't give the biggest bump in sales, as they either already have one on order, or weren't going to buy one in the first place.

The CG work was very impressive. I know flame fronts are notoriously difficult to make look right.

Mayhaps a commercial showing it's jackrabbit-like acceleration, and how it can shame most of the cars on the road in the stop-light grand prix? ("That thing got a V8? Yep.") Just thinking about the demographic that will actually buy the car.

actually we didn't use any CG for the spot...i'll post the 'making of' when it's up.

As an E46 M3 owner I have to tell you I am not a fan of the new Bangle design. That said I think you guys didn't do the car any favor with that unflattering wide angle shot from the front. My $.02

Very nice work! some of the youtube comments are interesting, too.

I agree with the earlier post: gearheads have already made up their minds about the car and have either written it off or are saving their pennies. Are the advertising gurus directing it towards the faux-motoring crowd by making it seem as if its targeted at the lap-day crowd (in other words, if mr/mrs cellphone-in-traffic believes that only hardcore users need apply, then they can buy instant credibility with that crowd)? Does that make sense or am I babbling? I'm sure the spot was based on a bunch of marketing research, etc but in my opinion (which is what you originally asked for) is that you need to convince Mr Image who is going for the 335 for fork over the extra cash and go for the big wiener, that is where advertising would make a difference in sales.

(and to be a smarta$$...) My first impression was... "is it my imagination or are the injectors already clogged?" The droplets look a little too big. Given the low surface tension of gasoline, and the fact that you probably don't want to squirt it all over a camera lens, am I right in guessing that an aqueous solution was used as a substitute?

It's okay

This was just a teaser/intro commercial, right? This is not the right kind of spot to ask these people this question. Show them the next wave of commercials and I'm guessing they'll give you better feedback.

that is great ed. we will be posting a 'making of' 4 minute clip in the next few days. also are trrying to get BMW to buy a :60 second version we put together...using about 5 additional engine process scenes.
