Hi All,
New Member from Moose Jaw, Saskatchewan. I bought my 71 2800 CS a year ago, from the son of the original owner. It had a new motor from BMW put in it in 1983, and has had a repaint at some point. The outside is quite good, but underneath is thoroughly rusty, rusted right through in places.

I just got it out of winter storage, Moose Jaw winters are no place for it...
Last summer I got it going (it had sat for years), fixed the sunroof, headlight stalk, and had a new exhaust put in.
New tires are going on next week, other than that it needs nothing mechanically, so I'm planning to just drive it and enjoy it as is.

I see a contradiction there. Are you sure it isn't structurally compromised from the rust? The car sure looks good from the topside. But, these unibody cars depend on folded sheetmetal to keep the four wheels in place and protect the occupants in the event of a crash. I'm not telling you what to do, just worried about your safety.

From the photos, it looks like a nice original example. What areas underneath are rusty?

Thanks for your concern, I took some pictures of the problem areas. Not as bad as I remembered it.

This is the worst area, right behind the front drivers side wheel well. Rusted right through there.

I guess it's hard to tell from the pictures, but how much would the car's structure be affected?
