Hello!

I just picked up two E3s here in Northern California, one sienna brown runner and one sahara tan rolling body. I used to have a 72 2002, and I saw these and wanted to get back into the vintage bmw world. The sale came with a ton of parts, and I was going to post on here pictures of everything so I could find out what’s worth keeping, and if any of you want anything. I will likely sell the 1973 roller, if anyone has interest for a low price I’ll let it go! My family’s gonna kill me with all the parts and two cars taking up so much space haha.

The brown e3 has a late 80s M30 EFI swap, with a 5 speed getrag 265/6 (at least I think so) and some later bmw heated seats. It drives nicely on the highway, the 5 speed and the m30 power and torque is a huge improvement over the m10 and 4 speed in the 2002. So far I love how it drives, the extra doors is a plus for me. If there are any people in the Bay Area it’d be fun to know about meet ups, I never really got out there with the 2002 but it had a hard time running correctly.

This seems like a great community with a ton of knowledge! Nice to meet all of you. I’ll add some more pictures of all the parts once I get everything unpacked, right now a lot of it is stuffed inside the tan one and the rest in various boxes and truck beds.

The VINs for each one are…
1974 Sienna: 3281036
1973 Sahara: 3135252

Hello and welcome! I think most of us here had seen that ad and some of us may have been trying to figure out the logistics of snagging some of the parts haha. Myself included up here in the Seattle area. I'm sure we'll happily help you decide what to keep and get rid of as well as help out with any tech questions. The FAQ here is very very helpful for both the E9 and E3 platforms.

Thank you! I happened to see the ad right as he posted it on Craigslist and I lucked out getting to go see it immediately. It’s a ton of stuff, might take a little bit to take some good pictures but I’ll post it all. The big parts are a full engine, a few transmissions, some different rear ends, several m30 heads. Lots of little parts and sensors, several carbs, lots to go through and read about on here!

Thanks for your help! I’m glad it all worked out. Yeah that would be fun to go to now, it’ll be much easier to travel some distance to go to the meet ups with overdrive!

Welcome to the forum. E3s are great cars. Later FI motor and 5 speed are a huge improvement. The engine compartment looks tidy enough. Leads me to believe the engine swap was done right, but the air filter housing could be mounted better.
If not included in the parts stash, you may want to take the bumpers off the roller before you let it go so you can swap out the big bumpers on the Siena.
Good Luck!

Thanks! Yes it feels great with the overdrive transmission. I’d always heard good things about the M30 engine, really glad I get to experience the power finally. Yeah it looks like the filter could be bolted down somewhere, but the strap to hold it looks a bit damaged.

That’s a good idea! Depending on how difficult I might try to swap it. Honestly I don’t really mind the big diving board bumpers, reminds me of a late 80s E30 my family used to own. Maybe I’m crazy but it doesn’t bother me too much. It’s a useful bench to sit on too! Haha

Thank you! Yeah I saw them right as they got posted and got out there quick! There’s so many parts it’s a little overwhelming, I’m not sure what’s worth keeping but I’m taking pictures of it and sorting it out slowly after work. Should get some pictures up soon.
